3-4 Organizing the Invisible: Women, ADHD, and Emotional Labor

3-4: Organizing the Invisible: Women, ADHD, and Emotional Labor

Regina Lark, CPO

Mind & Behavior

INTERMEDIATE

Emotional Labor is a valuable component to the well-being of every family system, and yet it is invisible. The workplace would not function at the human level without it, and yet it is unwritten and unwaged. Society calls it “a labor of love.” Sociologists and journalists call it “emotional labor.” Our clients with ADHD call it “overwhelm.” This session begins the conversation.

Session Objectives:
- Identify the components and tasks associated with emotional labor;
- Understand the value of emotional labor at home and in the workplace;
- Compare the division of physical and emotional labor in the household by gender;
- Identify the impact of emotional labor and behaviors related to ADHD, and develop strategies for starting emotional labor conversations with clients.
- Consider how Organizers can create a dialogue and role playing with client  in the context of the ADHD client’s relationship to emotional labor.
