Get Clients Unstuck: Deadline Distress, Perfectionism & Overwhelm
7:00 PM (Eastern) / 6 PM (Central) / 5 PM (Mountain) / 4 PM (Pacific) 1.25 hours

Event Info
Clients want to make progress between meetings, but sometimes get stuck and stalled. We will discuss three ways that this can happen and how to help clients move forward:
- Deadlines can kick people into gear, but they can also crank up the stress. Or a far off deadline isn’t motivating at all. How can we make deadlines more of a help than a hindrance?
- Quality work is admirable, but sometimes good enough is good enough. True perfectionism is a response to uncertainty and fear of criticism, but pseudo-perfectionism can also bog down progress. So, how good does your client’s work really need to be?
- Some projects are cognitively overwhelming which can lead to emotional overwhelm—and tempt clients to avoid the discomfort entirely. Instead, they need to take a few deep breaths, remember that they can handle this, and break the project down into more manageable chunks. How can we encourage clients to go towards the discomfort, rather than away?
Learning Objectives
- Help clients use deadline pressure as the right kind of motivator for them
- Distinguish between true perfectionism and pseudo-perfectionism and address each more effectively
- Help clients spin down their feelings of overwhelm so they can tackle big projects
