2-4: Organizing My Own Day - Who's Got the Time?

Dorothee Racette

What gets in the way of applying the principles we recommend to clients in our own lives? As professional organizers, we help other people create better structure, only to discover that there is no time for projects, exercise, or learning at the end of our OWN day. This presentation will take a look at a time management typology among organizers to help us find greater fulfillment and meaning in every day.

Session Objectives:
1. Learn about specific personality traits to recognize and address your own typical time choices
2. Develop long-term strategies to handle professional stress
3. Identify practical action steps to create more opportunities for enjoyment and personal growth
Session format: The presentation will be based on a typology of professional organizers to focus on time choices that may get in the way of living the life or running the business we really want. The interactive discussion and short exercises in pairs will generate specific, practical insights that can be implemented right away.
Contribution to the profession: "Cobbler's children syndrome," or lack of transfer in applying and converting professional expertise to personal and business situations, is an acknowledged fact in many professions.  Professional organizers frequently report that they find little time in their own day for the principles they recommend to clients. The presentation will address this contradiction and promote self-knowledge and personal insight as the keys to continued growth and professional satisfaction.
