NAPO member: From skeptic to true believer
Instead of having a messy room and overflowing toy box, this NAPO member kept tidy quarters as a child. That penchant for being neat and organized continued into adulthood and was useful during the 11 years she spent as a teacher. But she never considered her organizing talents to be the makings of a new career.
Getting started with NAPO
In fact, when her best friend suggested “organizing” as a business, the idea struck her as almost laughable.
Then one day, she discovered a business card with an organizer’s name and the phrase “member of National Association of Professional Organizers” printed on it. She first thought the NAPO reference was a fabrication intended to make the organizer look more professional. Surely, she thought, no such association exists!
But she verified NAPO’s existence online (to her great surprise) and entered a whole new world. “I learned that NAPO was not only a legitimate association, but also had thousands of members nationwide,” she says. “I joined at that moment and began my career as a professional organizer. Within the first month I got a request from a potential client and over time went from organizing part-time to running a full-time business.”
Eight years later, business is booming! This member received the support, training and updates from NAPO that she needed to grow as a professional organizer. If not for NAPO—The Organizing Authority that really does exist—she says, her business would not be the success it is today.
