What Are Your Clients' Favorite Lies?, Session 5-2

We all tell ourselves little lies because they make us feel better in the moment. We rationalize questionable choices by coming up with semi-plausible reasons to justify not doing what we know we should. Unfortunately, these little lies can interfere with clients making best use of your work with them, so it is important to identify these little lies that clients tell themselves and to work with them to make better choices instead.

Objectives
  • Explain how clients who struggle with organization and time management will more frequently find themselves in difficult or uncomfortable situations
  • Explain how these difficult situations give these clients more things to lie to themselves about and more reasons to believe those lies
  • Describe how today’s bad decisions create more difficult situations tomorrow which leads to more bad decisions tomorrow
  • List and describe some of the most common lies that clients tell themselves
  • Develop strategies to identify and counterbalance these lies to help clients live more integrated lives
