NAPO Board Strategic Planning Update
Share |

Dear NAPO Members,

Last month, your NAPO Board of Directors came together for its annual Strategic Planning Meeting. The Board identified 4 strategic goals for NAPO’s upcoming fiscal year. We are proud and excited to share these goals with you:

  1. Create and implement a Strategic Marketing and Communication Plan to improve NAPO’s communications with all of our members, prospective members, and the public that aligns with our financial resources.
  2. Further integrate productivity into NAPO’s operations and programs. (more information below)
  3. Streamline NAPO’s bylaws to reflect a dynamic membership, nimble leadership, and our expanding profession, while aligning more closely with the recent chapter bylaws update.
  4. Update and streamline NAPO’s membership models to provide vision and allow for future growth.

We have consistently promised transparency with you, our members, therefore we’d like to expand upon our second goal – “to further integrate productivity into NAPO’s operations and programs.”

To meet the needs of a growing segment of our membership, NAPO began this effort in 2011 by adding productivity to our mission statement. We have slowly and purposefully been integrating the word “productivity” into our website, in our marketing efforts, and productivity courses have been added to NAPO University and NAPO Conference offerings.  Many members use the title productivity consultant and we agree that everyone who organizes lends themselves and their work to productivity.

Last year, your Board of Directors made a commitment to further integrate productivity into NAPO’s operations, offerings, and messaging. In January 2016, the Board launched a Productivity Task Force to gather members’ input on what the integration of productivity might look like and how it might evolve. The Productivity Task Force was comprised of 6 NAPO members -- a cross section of new and veteran members, some who focus solely on productivity consulting, and others who offer organization and productivity consulting services.

The Productivity Task Force met over four months, resulting in an in-depth report of recommendations presented to the Board at its May 2016 Board Meeting.

The Productivity Task Force’s most significant recommendation was to change the words which comprise the NAPO acronym to the “National Association for Productivity and Organizing” or the “National Association for Productivity and Organization”.

Learning from the challenges surrounding the proposed name change that we experienced in 2010, the Board plans to evaluate this recommendation deliberately, carefully, and with member input. We are in the early stages of assessing this important recommendation and will keep you informed of our progress.

Rest assured, we are developing a plan that will give you, NAPO’s most valuable asset, our members, the opportunity to weigh in and contribute to this decision. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please reach out to me at President@NAPO.net. These are exciting times for our ever-changing profession and we strive to maintain a culture of growth for all of us!

WE are NAPO.

Sincerely,

Ellen Faye, CPO®, COC®

NAPO President on behalf of your NAPO Board of Directors
