The Barry Izsak/Glorya Schklair Conference Scholarship Fund

Every now and then, everyone could use a little help–even professional organizers. There are times when unexpected financial demands make it difficult to afford the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) annual conference and organizing exposition, even though attending would have a profound impact on your business and your spirit. Realizing the immense value and lasting effect attending conference could have on members facing temporary financial challenges, NAPO past president Barry Izsak was inspired to help.

Established in 2012, the Barry Izsak/Glorya Schklair Conference Scholarship Fund provides a complimentary full-conference registration to at least two NAPO members, so they may attend NAPO's annual conference and organizing exposition. Each funded conference registration gives one NAPO Industry Member access to the educational courses and professional skill development opportunities that are only available to the attendees of NAPO conferences.

The Barry Izsak/Glorya Schklair Conference Scholarship Fund directly supports the educational mission of NAPO by providing access to the educational experience of conference for the benefit of Industry Members who otherwise may not be able to attend due to financial or other extenuating circumstances. This fund was endowed through the generosity of Barry Izsak, NAPO President 2003-2007.

Facts about your donations:

Your donation to the Barry Izsak/Glorya Schklair Conference Scholarship Fund will be deposited into a segregated financial account managed by NAPO, a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational association. Your contributions of any size are fully tax-deductible.

Contributions of $1,000 or more are dollar-matched by NAPO, up to a maximum of $10,000 each fiscal year.

About Glorya Schklair and Barry Izsak:

Barry Izsak, NAPO Past President (2003-2007), met Glorya Schklair at the first NAPO conference he attended in Santa Clara, California in 1996. He was impressed with her unbridled passion for NAPO and the professional organizing industry, which was rivaled only by her commitment to bring industry certification to fruition. They instantly became friends and their relationship and respect for each other grew for the next 14 years until she passed away in 2010. Her enthusiasm was contagious and Barry immediately signed up to work with her on the first industry certification task force.

Glorya Schklair relentlessly carried the torch for industry certification for over ten years before the BCPO was created and the first exam was administered in 2007. She was convinced that a certification program was critical in validating the organizing profession. Always the visionary, shortly before her death, she championed the creation of the Emeritus category of NAPO membership.

A dear friend and mentor to many, Glorya exemplified the beauty of the selfless act of volunteerism for a cause in which one strongly believes. After contemplating the creation of a NAPO conference scholarship fund for several years, Barry decided that this was a most fitting way to pay tribute to a dear colleague and friend who had inspired and supported him and many others over the years and to honor her cherished memory.
