From Fortune 500 to organizing success
Despite this NAPO member’s background in math and expertise with statistics, her career as an actuary was no longer adding up. After 13 years of working with a Fortune 500 financial services company, her subsidiary had been sold. “It just got me to thinking a lot,” she says. “It makes you re-prioritize things.”
Through a lot of soul-searching, she realized she “wanted to more directly help people and affect their lives.”
Getting started with NAPO
Internet research led her to the professional organizing field. Soon after, she started her own residential and business organizing company, and, in 2006, she became a member of NAPO. “It’s really taken off,” she says. “Being a member of NAPO has definitely helped, by providing me with networking avenues and opportunities to learn.” Going to NAPO’s Annual Conference was especially productive. While there, she not only gained expertise but also networked with other like-minded professional organizers.
These days, her former days as a number cruncher still prove useful for the behind-the-scenes aspects of operating her company. “It comes in handy for running the business, as well as giving me an understanding of the challenges that some of my business clients deal with; I’ve been in their shoes.”
