The Administrator
Support staffer manages office, organizers’ schedules
She answers telephones and email queries, explains how the company’s services can help potential customers, manages the professional organizers’ schedules, prepares contracts for client work, assists with marketing, and follows up with clients once jobs have been completed.
In short, this administrative staff person is the glue that holds it all together in the multi-faceted professional organizing company where she works. “The biggest value is having that person to answer the phone,” she says. “We do get a lot of cold calls from people who are price shopping. They start calling, just going down the list. The first person who answers the phone is probably going to get the job.”
Particularly for NAPO members looking to grow their business and boost their client base, office help can be an important asset. A good administrative assistant can help ensure that organizers report to client appointments at the right time and place, with contracts in hand, confident that billing and accounting are up to date.
Administrative staff jobs create employment opportunities for individuals who want to work within the organizing industry without necessarily doing hands-on organizing in the field. Working for professional organizers does make it easier to maintain order in the office, notes the administrator. “What I do here in 40 hours would take me 60 hours in another job.”
