- The first Chapter Newsletters (1984-1985) were hand-typed, cut and pasted. All operations were done by phone and postal mail.
- In the Fall of 1987, the Yellow Pages telephone directory in California agreed to list the following categories
- In Consumer Directories: ORGANIZING SERVICES – HOUSEHOLD & BUSINESSES
- In Business Directories: ORGANIZING SERVICES - BUSINESS
- During the 2nd NAPO Conference, held on February 10-11, 1989, in Redondo Beach, CA, a group of dancers from China Town was hired to perform a 25 foot dragon dance to entertain at the banquet.
- During the 4th NAPO Conference, held on May 14-17, 1992, in Chicago, IL, NAPO Founders were honored with Lifetime membership. The Founders performed a “rap” song on the stage to commemorate the occasion. The lyrics were tied into the history of NAPO.
- NAPO celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a formal tea at the Ritz Carlton, in Los Angeles, CA. Everyone was dressed for the occasion in proper afternoon tea attire…. including hats!
- NAPO’s Web page was created in Spring 1996.
- The NAPO Conference returned to Los Angeles, CA, in 2000 to celebrate the association’s 15th Anniversary and the new millennium.
- The Get Organized (GO) MonthSM used to be Get Organized (GO) Week. GO Week was established in 1991, as an annual event. October 3-9, 2004 was NAPO’s last GO Week. In 2005, January was proclaimed as the “Get Organized (GO) MonthSM”.
- In the Summer of 2003, exposure for the professional organizing industry reached Oprah, Dr. Phil and shows such as HGTV’s Mission Organization and TLC’s Clean Sweep air.
- In the Fall of 2003, NAPO welcomed its 2000th Member, Gwen Farrington.
- In June 2003, NAPO approved its current logo.
- In 2006, Get Organized MonthSM brochure won AMEX Award for Publication Excellence.
- The inaugural exam for certified professional organizers was held by the Board of Certification for Professional Organizers® (BCPO®) on April 25, 2007.
- NAPO News converted to digital format in August 2009.
- You can find NAPO in social media outlets, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.
- There are now Wikipedia entries for the National Association of Professional Organizers® (NAPO), BCPO® and Certified Professional Organizers.
